Paris ZTL for Tourist Buses (Limited Traffic Zones in Paris)

Starting on November 4th, 2024, the City of Paris now enforces a Limited Traffic Zone. The goal is to reduce both air and noise pollution and, as a result, make mobility easier in that region.

The project started with an educational phase, where police officers explain the rules without applying penalties. Later, the ZTL Paris centre will be fully enforced: any driver who enters the zone without prior authorization will be fined. There are signs on the streets to show the Paris ZTL’s boundaries. They show intersections with an entrance; the actual entrance; and the point where you are leaving the ZTL. Unauthorized drivers may not even cross the zone; they are obligated to drive around it.

There will be only one ZTL Paris: it comprises the first 4 arrondissements except the islands and the high quays. People who live and/or work there are fully allowed to drive in the ZTL, as well as professionals of public services.

When can tourist buses enter the ZTL Paris Centre?

  • Hotel reservations: In case the driver needs to pick up tourists whose hotel is within the ZTL, it will be possible to enter the ZTL. The driver will need to provide proof of that work, like confirmation of the tourism package booked by that group of tourists.
  • Restaurant meetings: Bus drivers can also drop off and pick up passengers at the ZTL. They are going to need proof of the reservation. It is necessary to park at an appropriate spot and keep the engine off while the passengers enter or leave the vehicle.
  • Group transportation: If part of the group lives or is staying within the ZTL, bus drivers will be allowed to enter the ZTL. The local laws extend that permit to people who want to visit others who live in the region.

Who can drive there?

The ZTL system primarily restricts the circulation of motor vehicles in the Paris downtown, with exceptions, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Crossing the zone without stopping is no longer possible; it will be necessary to drive around it.

When will the Zone ZTL Paris start?

The educational phase started on November 4th, 2024. At first, police officers will enforce the Paris ZTL restrictions without applying any penalties. That phase will be valid for six months; the goal is to give people time to adapt to the new rules.

After that period, the police will fully enforce the ZTL Paris Centre. Authorized people will have received the necessary documents to grant them free transit, and any unauthorized driver who tries to enter the ZTL will be fined according to the local laws.
